APES Success
A.P.E.S.: Suggestions for Success
- Use kwanga.net to access course information on a regular basis.
- Check email each weekend for update or check the weekly update page on kwanga.net.
- Spend 15 minutes per night reviewing any new material or reviewing old material with no distractions.
- Read “teacher notes” in advance and take “student notes” in class.
- Be an active participant in class. Ask questions when needed. If you don't know what to ask, describe the concepts giving you trouble.
- Practice math skills such as dimensional analysis (unit conversion) and metrics. Review APES Math Tips, math FRQs, and Welcome Assignment 4.
- Review basic chemistry concepts: acids and other chemical formulas, pH, common polyatomic and monatomic ions (see Welcome Assignment 3).
- Go over the multiple choice test reviews online. Do not wait until the night before to study. Study alone first with no phone or other distractions before you study in a group (if you choose to study in a group).
- Review relevant FRQs online before each test. After studying, choose an FRQ, time yourself, and write out the answer as if it were a real test. Then score yourself with the online rubric.
- Access APES Web Links page on kwanga.net for enrichment and/or review.
- Complete all optional assignments.
- Correct all assignments (“buyback”) to get some points back.
- Always keep your binder in order.
- Make an appointment to come in for help or review.
- Canvas: All lectures and most labs were recorded in 2020. Students can review these videos any time on Canvas.
